It is the week of October 19th and I feel like that should mean something
to me – something about Halloween coming or the number of shopping days to
something or some other urgent, exciting matter that totally escapes me.
Maybe because Halifax POP Explosion is upon us – that's it: In two days
HPX 2009 starts and I am in Saskatchewan. I have no objection to being
here, I have family matters here and I am enjoying big sky at Rider
football talk. But this week, my heart belongs in Halifax where I have
oft made a fall pilgrimage to store my culture up like squiring away nuts
for the long winter. I saw Dave Scolton and Kris Pope in Toronto before I
left as part of their Acres and Acres VIA Rail tour, and I have a
potential ace in the whole to get HPX coverage out IndieCan style, but it
will be an 11th hour save if it happens. So that's it. I won't be giving
up on it – let's see what happens.

If you listen on XM Radio Channel 87 The Verge you'll see IndieCan is now
Monday at 3 AM and again at 3 PM. Many of you will prefer that to the
late night Tuesdays. Those are EST times of course so midnight and noon
for you west-coasters. It feels good to be in the company of insomniacs
and part of a forbidden pleasure as people listen in at their work station
in the office. I can hear it now, “Sorry what was that? I didn't hear
you because I drifted off from the monotone drone of Joe C going on about
POP Montreal and the Fall colours.” I call that contributing to the North
American economic recovery. On that topic, in an economic recovery where
markets are up 20% and unemployment is on the rise, I see a short lived
party at the office – put your long term $s in Canadian Culture. It's as
recession proof as Hockey (That's Hockey in cities that have snow – for
Christs sake).

It's been posted for some time but if you haven't heard Episode 151 it's
still fresh brewed and we saved you a cup. We have three charming
interviews: Jason Bajada has a new CD called Loves Hit or Love Shit – we
are going to get to the bottom of it. Pawnshop Brokers is a Commercial
Drive VanBand that you will love if you have a soul. If you have Parents
– they will love it. If you have kids they will love it. It's timeless
music about family stuff, like what we'll do when I get home – if I'm not
dead. And Ode to HPX and the east-coast we have – from St. John's The
Mountains and The Trees where we talk about old guitars and even older
suit-case percussion sounds.

Also this week, who remembers Lotus Child? Zack and Tom have a new
project called The Zolas which I think is super catchy. Not like Herpes,
the good super-catchy. More Halifax comes our way with Ruby Jean and The
Thoughtful Bees +Emma Lee, The Iron Choir, the Fugitives and to celebrate
my Saskatchewanness, The Wheat Pool – one of many IndieCan virgins this
week.

Coming later this week, look for 152 – The POP Montreal Report.

Enjoy Indie Week coverage from Toronto. We have pics at
http://www.indiecan.com and video and commentary are coming + great Indie
Week radio coverage.

Many of you have mentioned some gremlins in the IndieCan email system and
sorry, I can't explain the weird Emails we are all getting from IndieCan's
Web master. Well, we don't have one – Gayle our Domainatrix was the
closest, since Andre moved to occasional hours at IndieCan. So, we are
looking into it, in fact I have and I had things explained to me that went
in one ear and out the other. I am dumb as a post on technical issues.
Please hang in as we sort it out. I am hoping to avoid the nauseating
securities measures that involve complicated passwords that you have to
change each quarter or other draconian measures but we'll do what we have
to do so IndieCan fans aren't preyed upon. If you get any weird messages
from me, or IndieCan, check with me at joechisholm at rogers.com before you
collect your prize vacation.

Thanks for making IndieCan part of your cultural week!
