South By South EH! + Annual Demo Listening Derby

I am very excited about this week’s SXSW radio review for a number of
reasons. First, I think we bring fabulous entertainments: Polaris Prize
finalist, Julie Doiron has a new record out called, “I Can Wonder What You
Did With Your Day” and Julie, a South by – veteran, is back from Texas
with her band and into IndieCan Studio to share tales of this year’s
festival features and brand new music with us – damn!

Reason for my excitement #2: IndieCan is a team of people full of love and
our team is growing - Bryen Dunn has been an IndieCan friend for some time
– many of you might recall the feature article on
http://www.indiecan.com/events.htm ( Indie Hall of Fame inductees, Anvil).
Well, Bryen is our IndieCan man on the ground in Texas and he sits in for
Episode 128 to share stories and some of his bag full of new CDs. We get
the Devo Report, Damn Vikings storming his Austin abode; Canadian bands
making an impact and some foreign content to (as we say in the financial
planning world) diversify, reduce risk and add Beta. Does that metaphor
work? You be the judge. We’ll be on more about “judging” later.

So, we kick of with Julie and band and we also feature this week: The Wet
Secrets, The Joys, LadyHawke, John Antoniuk, Primal Scream, The Hot Kicks
and brand new Patrick Watson – 2007’s Polaris Music Prize winner.

More about judging: Friday April 24th at 7 PM, I will be hosting The Big
Schmooze demo listening derby at Long & McQuade in Toronto. I will be
joined by: 1) educator and #1 hit song writer John Capek (Rod Stewart,
Bonnie Raitt, Joe Cocker and more). Musician/Radio personality, Bob “The
Ice Man” Segarini (Q107, Sirius Satellite Radio, Radio that doesn’t Suck)
and - Juno-nominated producer, Doug Romanow, and from Ole Publishing, one
of the largest independent Music Publishers in the world, Elizabeth Spear

http://www.bigschmooze.ca

I have been through this many times – as a songwriter, looking for
constructive feed back, as a life-long-student of the music biz and as a
radio producer looking for content. It’s $10 to attend of Free if you’re
a Big Schmooze card holder. Everyone in the Greater Toronto Area who’s in
the music biz or in love with the music biz should consider coming to
either be heard or just to network. Any band on the run, in shooting
distance of Toronto that weekend should think about detouring to the
Schmooze to network, too.

I will have more to say about the whole process + links to the panelist on
our Events Page by Monday, so check in @ http://www.indiecan.com

Many thanks to Bryen Dunn and Julie Doiron for being part of this week’s
show. Thanks, Ellen Drake for inviting me to participate in the Big
Schmooze – thanks to each and every one of you who have taken the time out
of what must be a busy day to check in with IndieCan.

Two last things: Please take a minute to think of who might benefit from
The Demo Listening Derby April 24th and forward this Email to them – it
only happens once a year.

Enjoy this week’s show. It was made with love :-)
